TITLE HISTORY: AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

In All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the AEW World Championship is the most prestigious championship in the company. When AEW was created in 2019, AEW Chief Executive Officer (AEW CEO), General Manager (AEW GM) and Head of Creative: Tony Khan announced that the company would not have weight divisions; therefore they would have an AEW World Championship not an AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
It was announced English television personality Jack Whitehall on May 22, 2019 that the winner of the Casino Battle Royale at AEW Double or Nothing: The Buy In would battle the winner of the AEW Double or Nothing main event match between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho at a future event to determine the inaugural AEW World Champion.
